Styrian - Korean cooperation for cleaner production

25.07.08
In April this year Dr. Man Gi Cho, Professor and Head of the “Research Centre for Advanced Science and Technology“ institute, director of the Korea–EU International Cooperation Centre (KEUICC) signed a partnership agreement for projects regarding cleaner production with the leading Graz organisation STENUM offering management consulting and research in environmental matters.

Dr. Man Gi Cho is planning to set up a team in the next few years for the realisation of cleaner production on behalf of Dongseo University and KEUICC.

As part of practice-related projects, fresh graduates of the University will be trained as consultants for cleaner production. Therefore, STENUM will provide its expertise and many years of experience in its core competence of “cleaner production – integrated preventive environmental protection”. The aim of the technical consultation of STENUM is the feasible implementation of cleaner production at local companies; on the one hand to strengthen companies economically and on the other hand to relieve the strain on the Busan region resulting from harmful environmental impact.

The first projects will soon take place in Busan financed by the Dongseo University. Busan is the second largest city in South Korea and has the country’s most important harbour. Located at the south-eastern end of the Korean peninsula on the coast of the Sea of Japan, Busan is the centre for regional and international commerce and traffic, industry and education. Through the projects initiated by the University, the aim is to persuade the local government of Busan actively and financially to support such projects in future.
