40 Trends and Chances on the Market

12.11.08
The innovative radar for the future known as the “Zukunftsradar” encompasses the top 40 trends and accompanying business opportunities compiled by international experts for the booming energy and environmental technology. These are the basis for a solid strategic and annual plan for companies and investors.

Radar eyes look straight ahead and are naturally extremely focused.
The “Zukunftsradar” published recently by ECO WORLD STYRIA is not much different. 20 European experts such as chief editors of leading magazines, managing directors of major companies and well-known researchers in the area of energy and environmental technology have contributed their detailed, profound knowledge and professional experience in this unique “indicator for companies.”

The result is no less than 40 current environmental trends and opportunities on the market which are to provide significant support for companies in their strategic and future planning. Because according to a survey by ECO WORLD STYRIA, strategy is precisely the competence companies will have to advance in the future if they want to be successful on the market for the long term. ECO WORLD Managing Director Bernhard Puttinger: “As an exemplary Europe-wide network, we want to effectively support companies in the development of their market and technological leadership.” The experts took a closer look at ecological, technological, economic, legislative and sociocultural factors concerning the future in order to ascertain the environmental trends and market opportunities which are economically most promising.

The top trends are as follows:
- Higher fossil energy prices due to the scarcity of oil. Plastics recycling and
substitute fuels derived from waste will grow.
- Clearly perceptible, regionally diverse climate change. Technologies aimed
at preventing climate change will gain in importance.
- Greater water efficiency instead of development of new water sources. In
2030 half of the world’s population will suffer from the scarcity of potable
water. The result: the market for water treatment facilities will
  considerably expand.
- Cooling systems and electricity from waste and solar heat will become
competitive. The demand for cooling technology will also climb.
- The decentralisation of the energy supply including decentralised power
storage. Small energy supply units with combined heating and cooling
  power are the future.

Details on market opportunities derived from these and many other
trends can be found in the “Zukunftsradar” publication.
With the “Zukunftsradar” ECO also offers consulting services with
which a customised strategy-building process including funding options
is implemented at the respective enterprise. “Ökotech” (www.
oekotech.biz) and “Solid,” (www.solid.at) two Styrian solar technology
firms with an international reputation, were some of the first companies
to take advantage of this offer in order to tackle new market
opportunities both rapidly and efficiently.

At Ökotech the chances of successfully expanding the market for small systems on a transregional basis are very good in the future. Solutions for optimising work processes were also identified and a process model for even easier customer access developed. At the biomass boiler manufacturer Perhofer an overall strategy including marketing and sales was developed. From the company’s perspective the ongoing service in the implementation is especially valuable. “In the end satisfied customers who get exactly what they want should notice a tangible benefit,” says Sebastian Eger of the consulting firm palum.

And while on the subject of fulfilling customer demand: according to “Zukunftsradar,” customers increasingly long for simplicity and transparency. Those who can explain their innovative products and services in a simple way are always a step ahead of the competition.
