14 new “Research Studios Austria” were established with the aim of turning basic knowledge into prototypes. Six of these studios are located in Styria, one of them at the Department of Nonferrous Metallurgy at the University of Leoben. Special metal recovery from residual waste containing such metals is the studio’s area of research, in which the recovery of precious metal from car wrecks is being investigated. As the market for these metals has considerably increased in the last few years, but they are very difficult to obtain, the available recycling methods in Austria are to be compiled and studied for their business and technical aspects. Savings in energy, deposit volume as well as raw and auxiliary materials are expected. www.unileoben.ac.at.
