Together with biomass expert Leo Riebenbauer, the electrotechnology enterprise Hannes Merl has founded “Brucker Bio-Fernwärme GmbH” and established a bio-heating station in Bruck/Mur that has been supplying parts of the city centre with bio district heating since October. The heating output is eight megawatts, with agreements and declarations of intent ensuring a savings of 750,000 litres of oil, 840 m³ of gas and 4,700 t of CO2 per year. Solar energy facilities are also planned wherever possible within the city limits. The surplus heat is to be fed into the grid and provide heat for the open-air pool in the future. www.bruckmur.at
