AE&E technology to drive environmentally sound waste disposal in Paris

Contract to upgrade largest energy from waste plant in France

The AE&E Group — which constitutes the Plant Construction Division of Vienna-listed A-TEC Industries AG — has secured a contract to modernise the largest energy from waste plant in France. The order for rehabilitation of the plant in Ivry-sur- Seine, greater Paris, is worth a total of about EUR 21 million (m), of which about EUR 15m will go to AE&E’s local subsidiary Inova France. The client is Parisian local authority waste disposal association SYCTOM.

“Just two years after the handover to SYCTOM of the new energy from waste plant in Issyles- Moulineaux, around 10 km from Paris, AE&E has been awarded another large contract by the same organisation,” noted AE&E Group CEO Georg Gasteiger. “This is further testimony to clients’ satisfaction with our innovative plants which meet the latest environmental standards,” he added.

The contract awarded to the AE&E Group involves revamping the combustion and steam eneration systems of the two existing lines at the plant. The keys to the client’s decision were the technical concept developed by the group and its extensive experience of plant modernisation. AE&E also stood out from the competition by having internal production apacity in place. Work on train 1 is due to start in May 2010, and upgrading of train 2 will egin in May 2011 and be completed later that year.

The Ivry-sur-Seine thermal waste treatment plant has an annual capacity of 730,000 tonnes (t) of household waste, making it France’s largest facility of this kind. The two trains each roduce 100 t of steam per hour, used for district heating and electricity generation. The energy recovered by the plant supplies some 100,000 households with power and heat. The upgrade will extend the working life of the two lines by eight years.

The rehabilitation of the plant is part of an ambitious long-term programme to place SYCTOM’s operations in the Paris area on a new technological and environmental footing. “Thanks to our excellent relationship with the client to date and the new contract, AE&E is destined to continue assisting SYCTOM in working towards its goals,” said Gasteiger.
