In Styria, too, greater emphasis is to be placed on electric mobility in the future. Magna, Energie Steiermark and Graz AG jointly established a competence center for electric mobility. A fleet test with a total of 30 vehicles and 40 charging stations is planned in the Graz area. The first cars are to go into full operation in 2012.
From the end of 2011 on already, there are to be the first e-vehicles in the streets of Graz, and from 2014 on, a Magna in-house development is to be added. In that, the strategic target of Magna consists in presenting a second generation electric vehicle on an especially developed platform, which compared to the current electric vehicles has significant advantages in respect of efficiency, storage space capacity, comfort and above all price. This concept forms the basis for negotiations with international automobile manufacturers.
Magna is also planning test operations for electric mobility in other European regions. Thus, an international dimension is opened up, which is necessary for the further development and support of e-mobility at a pan-European level.
