Styrian Centres of Competence: ECO Power Drive

Emissions and Fuel Consumption Reduction for Two-Wheeler and Small Engine Applications

05.11.10
With four of a total of seven Austrian competence centres focussing on energy and environmental engineering, numerous research institutions and the Europe-wide second highest research quota of 4.3%, Styria is excellently positioned. Therefore, many environmental engineering companies develop and produce their products and services in this region of Austria.

In the competence project ECO Power Drive, around 20 employees at Graz University of Technology and at their partners’ deal with the reduction of pollutant and CO2 emissions of two-wheelers, small engine applications and leisure-time vehicles. In that, the research work focuses on environmentally friendly, competitive and cost-efficient methods and developments. Under the management of the Institute for Combustion Engines and Thermodynamics (IVT), the superior target of ECO Power Drive, to make a significant contribution to the “ecologisation” of small engine applications, is pursued. Beside IVT, renowned national and international companies like BMW Motorrad, BRP-Powertrain, Viking, Emitec, Hans Leeb, Synerject and Drivetek as well as the Wels University of Applied Sciences and the Institute for Electrical Measurement and Measurement Signal Processing of Graz University of Technology are involved.
