ANDRITZ to supply lignite coal drying equipment for Kemper County IGCC power generation facility, USA

09.11.10

Graz, October 14, 2010. International technology Group ANDRITZ has been awarded a contract by Mississippi Power, a Southern Company affiliate, to supply six fluidized bed drying lines for their Kemper County IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) power generation facility, a new 582 MW electric power plant in the state of Mississippi, USA. The fluidized bed drying lines will be used in the fuel preparation section to dry locally mined lignite prior to gasification.

ANDRITZ’s scope of supply includes engineering as well as supply of six large fluid beds with in-bed heat exchangers and peripheral gas heating equipment. Delivery is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2011, with start up scheduled for 2014.

IGCC combines electric power generation from a gas turbine and a steam turbine (combined cycle), the latter using high pressure steam generated from the waste heat of the gas turbine exhaust. The fluidized bed dryers are heated with hot water generated in the gasification cooling system prior to the raw syngas purification system.
