Sunstore 4 – next-level heat and power system

18.05.11
BIOS BIOENERGIESYSTEME have together with the Institute for Process and Particle Technology of Graz University of Technology developed a next-generation combined heat and power generation system: in the project SUNSTORE 4 on the Danish Aero Peninsula, long-term heat storage vessels (Organic Rankine Cycle) are integrated into a biomass/solar project in an intelligent, novel and economic manner. The Graz company BIOS is responsible for planning and optimised integration of the combined biomass heat and power generation into the overall system. Around 32,000 MWh/a of district heat are produced, wherein a considerable 40 % are covered by solar energy, 55 % by Biomass and 3 % via the heat pump. As biomass fuel, short-rotation willows are used. The required CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations, which are decisive for efficient emission reduction, are performed by BIOS.

BIOS is an internationally leading institution in the field of CDF simulations of biomass combustion and gasification plants and closely cooperates with the Austrian bio-energy competence centre Bioenergy 2020+ GmbH in Graz, whereby access to the latest processes and developments in this field is possible.
