In St. Margarethen an der Raab, Styria, the company Cleanstgas is developing an innovative wood gasification technology under the same brand name. CLEANSTGAS stands for Clean Staged Gasification. The novelty of this technology is in the method of producing wood gas. Biomass gasification systems have often failed due to the low quality of gas product (e.g. high-tar and particulate fractions). The burden for gas cleaning is not just a technical challenge but also causes high costs. With the new CLEANSTGAS process a highly pure and tar-free gas is created in the first process step that is particularly well suited for use in advanced gas engines. So the problems of earlier technologies (high tar content in the wood gas) are overcome in the first step.
