Due to the tragic incidents in Japan, the development of energy efficiency and renewable energies is what is called for now. The pioneer for this is Styria as a veritable hotspot for innovative environmental and energy technologies. The TechMeter analysis carried out recently worldwide shows how high the concentration of experts is here: in the areas of biomass, solar and energy efficiency - in relation to gross regional product - Styrians are clearly ahead of the game. New examples of this are the cleanest and most climate-friendly pellet heating system and the SUNSTORE 4 combined heat and power project featuring long-term heat storage.
At the same time, international cooperation as well as cooperation between science and business are indispensable factors on the path to a climate-neutral society. Thus the EU is providing EUR 70 billion in support for innovative energy technology projects in the scope of the SET plan (page 4) in the next ten years.
